mini disaster

So the little pond in our garden decided that it was time for a change. It has been there for years but supported by dry wall which started bulging with all the rain we’ve had lately. Today that bulge became a collapsed wall.

Luckily dad noticed it happening and managed to save the fish (there was still a lot of water in the lower half of the pond). While surveying the site with a view to rebuilding the pond we decided to go and have a look at the pre-formed ponds at our local water garden place.

Net result is that we have purchased a new fibreglass preformed pond which is about 5 times the size of the old one. We would have gone bigger but there would have been too long a delay in getting it delivered. The new pond arrives tomorrow.

This afternoon has therefore been spent in preparing the ground for the new pond. We can’t get it completely ready until the new pond is here but a newhole has been dug on the site to the right depth and approximately the right dimensions. The plan is for the new pond to be slightly raised (about 10 inches) which thankfully means the hole only needed to be 18 inches or so deep 🙂

As this is a bit of an emergency the plan is to get the pond delivered tomorrow morning. Locate the pond and make sure it’s level then get it half filled so the fish have somewhere to live while the raised part is constructed.

Still not sure exactly what is going to be done with the raised part. Not looking forward to building a wall but it may be necessary.

So anyway, a little excitement today, even if it does mean I didn’t go see Karate Kid at the cinema.

Naturally I was somewhat busy and my camera stayed firmly in the camera bag… doh. I should at least take the phone out and snap a pic of the hole, lol.
