So, it’s Christmas.
Never was much of one for the religious implications, the whole thing reads like a fairy tale. I guess that is appropriate at this time of year too. And I know there are people whos faith is strong. They have my respect for putting up with the ones like me 🙂 The commercial implications on the other hand are much more tenable. Outright capitalism to be sure, but that’s never really bothered me either.
It’s a strange thing about christmas where the priority for the presenting of gifts switches from receiving to giving. My shopping this year was pretty rushed, having suddenly discovered it was later than I thought. Still I think I did ok based on the reactions I got from the ones I handed out today.
There are somethings which hold value far greater than simple cash. Seeing in someones face that they like what you have chosen to present to them makes the whole stressful season worthwhile. I suck at choosing presents in general but this year I seem to have made some correct choices 🙂
I hope all of you have had a great day. I hope that each and every one of you found something that made the whole thing worthwhile.
I’m back to work tomorrow. Having the day off today was actually unexpected, sometimes things can surprise evn cynics like me 🙂
A few highlights of my day:
Like I said, the present *giving* was fun. I got my Dad some stamp albums (sounds lame but he appreciated them). I got my mum some perfume that she likes and a Wall-E DVD which brought a smile to her face. My brothers gift this year was actually from myself and my folks, he’s been looking at home theatre systems for a while now so we managed to get the one he was planning to buy for him. We even managed to sneak it into the house without his knowledge.
The gifts I received were pretty standard fare as gifts to me go. The old faithfuls like socks and underwear were there. I also received a nice burgundy shirt, a couple of DVDs (Batman and Hellboy2) and a game for the 360 (Mirrors Edge). I also received a box of goodies from Tinyfroglet and J which I spent probably the best part of an hour opening and investigating this afternoon, Thanks!
I have to say I’ve made out pretty well this year, as with pretty much every year. But the best part is definitely smiles on other peoples faces!
