The hoops you jump through…

Well it’s been a while as usual.  Time for a little update.

I had a job interview yesterday at beCogent, basically a call centre job doing tech support for Tiscali IPTV.  I thought the interview went pretty well, and was feeling quite positive about the whole thing.  We were told we’d know today if we had the job or not, but so far there has been no call.  Fair enough sometimes these things take a little longer, it’s the waiting that I don’t like!

Today I had to go and meet with a representative of New Deal, one of our governments wonderful ways of “encouraging” us job seekers to get our finger out.  After all obviously we’re not actually trying to find a job.  So for the next x weeks I need to go see a New Deal representative so he can keep tabs on my job seeking.  If I’m not working in that time frame I have to attend Microcom.  I know some of you who read this are currently laughing at my misfortune.. the others need only know that some layers of hell are less painful than Microcom.

So as you can understand I’m really hoping I get that phonecall.

So, I did my usual job hunting this morning before I headed out to the meeting and while wandering downstairs found that dad had gone out in my car.  So I told mum I needed their car to go to my meeting, and got told no way… Then she naffed off in that car.  So, I waited, and waited, and 1pm drew closer with no sign of either car returning.  I had no choice, had to cyle to Ayr.  Took me about 45 minutes to cycle it, in the rain.  I arrived soaked and sweating like a pig… unsurprisingly.  Got moaned at by the security staff that I was early, please wait outside.  In the rain.

The actual meeting with the New Deal representative went fine, took about an hour.  Came back out, dried off my bike as best I could and cycled home.  I had planned to go check out the price of a new suit and maybe a couple of shirts since I only have one white shirt at this time and that caused problems yesterday.  But being soaking wet I didn’t want to go into Slaters and annoy them by asking stupid questions and making stupid demands.

Oh, and to top it off I have my ADSL bill, MOT and Car Insurance due soon.  Another £600 or so I don’t have assuming there’s nothing wrong with the car.  I could really use that job about now…
