So I spent the last two weeks in training for my new job and on friday answered my first support call. If I said the training was thorough I would be misleading you. In fact I still know very little about the stuff I’m meant to be supporting!
Still, the trainers did say we’d learn more on the floor than we did in the classroom and it certainly seems to be ringing true. My first call was a nerve wracking experience, but after it was over and done I think I have been improving with each subsequent call. It strikes me that there was very little said on the topic of any standardised greeting etc… In this case if you phone, you’re *not* getting a scripted answer, believe me!
Personally I would like to have been given more hands on with the equipment we’re supporting but I don’t blame anyone for that. We’re simply not in an area where the IPTV is available.
Anyway I’ve survived the first two weeks. Tomorrow I start at 8am, so hopefully I’ll have an easy time getting there with no major traffic hassles. The drive up hasn’t really been too bad, it’s about 50 minutes on a clear run and I generally get there with time to spare if I leave about 75 mins in advance. I’m one of those who likes to get in and chill a bit at work before hitting the floor as it were. Not so looking forward to getting up at 5:45 am, but at least I should be home for 5 ish.
So yesterday I went out and bought myself a new toy, I was debating the choice of Xbox 360 and PS3 but finally sided with the 360. The Blu-ray does appeal but the extra cost is not currently worth it to me. Anyway maybe next year I will buy a ps3 too :p I’ve been playing UC Flatout pretty much every free moment I get since I plugged in the 360, there’s something quite relaxing about totally trashing the cars you race against! I did pick up HALO 3 (as part of the bundle) also but haven’t decided if I am going to take it back and swap it for something else, juiced 2 looks quite fun…
