Onwards, Ever onwards…

So I am still following my new exercise schedule, and more importantly enjoying it!

EA Active tells me that today is a Rest Day so I fired up Wii Fit for the first time as my weight now gives me leeway for the maximum rating on the board. Yes, it told me I’m obese. I knew that, that’s the whole point…  Anyway, other than the little “ouch” noise it makes when I step on the board I have found Wii fit to be a totally different ball game to EA Active.

Wii Fit is made up of lots of mini games, Yoga exercises, Muscle Workouts, Aerobic Worouts and Balance Games.  Unlike EA Active there is no set path, you just pick a game and play. When it’s done you quit that game and pick another.. or try again.

What do I like about it? Well the Yoga stuff is interesting, it watches your balance as you try out the moves, and tells you how badly you did 🙂 I tried the starting moves out and while most were easy the Tree has me stumped for now, I can’t stay steady on one leg with my foot on my thigh and my hands pointing at the ceiling… yet. I can see me coming back to it for the Yoga and balance stuff but EA definitely has the edge on cardio/aerobics by a huge margin. I think if Wii Fit were my only tool I would lose motivation very quickly.

With regards to my exercising, I have also joined fitbug (google it) which monitors my walking throough the day and my eating habits. It also bugs me via email or text message if I slack off. More motivation 🙂 It also sets goals for how far I need to walk each day and target calorie intake. This week I appear to have a target of 5600 aerobic steps, but the calorie intake seems a bit high.

The down side of all this walking is time. I don’t get home until 9pm and while I can easily rack up a few thousand steps by walking back and forth to the printer all the time, none of those are aerobic. To register the aerobic steps you need to keep up a pace for a certain period as determined by the fitbug pedometer. So last night I got home and went for a walk, turns out I need to walk for approximately an hour to reach this step count.
